you need any chip, but you need the one that fits with the motherboard of the xbox

you at least need to have your xbox softmodded. I recommend getting a chip though. something like the X3 CE or one of those new good ones, then have it installed if you don't trust yourself to do it right. but softmodding is a inexpensive way of doing it(if you have an action replay and one of the right games already, it costs nothing). either way, you need the xbox modded first.

so wait, i dont need a chip? is there any way i can just hook my xbox up to a comp and install ppf's?

No... Well not exactly.

You do need some software, like Action Replay.

But I also suggest buying a modchip and having it installed.

say im never to do any m ajor mods or anything and never plan to do any modding again? can i use action replay?

Only if you have never been on xbox live, have action replay, an exploit, and an original copy of the game the exploit is for.
