Please help me with hex editor

I couldn't find where to post this so i put it here. I can't get hex to work. I go through the tutorial to make a pistol shoot rockets and i do everything right, but when i go to play it doesn't work. The pistol still shoot normal bullets. I go back and open up the map and i go to the pistol offset and the value is no longer the value of the rockets it goes back to the pistol value. I save every time and i have the map in the right folder but it still don't work. I went by the tutorial posted by Sir_Zyn but i just cant get it to work with anything i try. Please help me.
