HaloMods "Classic" Read-only Archive

My friend just got a mod chip and hes installing it today. But he wants to know how to make and apply mods. Yes, I did search, but none of them had very deatailed ways of doing this from step one.

One question is, my friend is doing this on a laptop, which you know doesnt have all the little plugins (red, white, yellow) that a regular PC has. Does he need the plugins. Somewhere I heard that all you have to do is put the Halo 2 game disc into the DVD section of your computer. Is this true?

And what about the programs? I know what programs you need: smartftp, winrar, ppf-o-matic, and the necryptomatic signature tool.

I know what winrar and ppf-o-matic do, but what does the smartftp and the necryptomatic signature tool do? Yes I saw the sticky post that Martijn Gelissen posted but it doesnt say how to use them. My friend is very new and has never done a mod before. I know how to do everything important except how to use some of the programs.

So things I need to know:

How to use Smatftp?
How to use the necryptomatic signature tool?
And any other good advice (And yes I will help him back up his maps).
Do you need to have the red, blue, and white plugins?
I can do it on a laptop right?
Whats HDD?
When I have to get my username and password from my setings, are my settings in the xbox or in the PC?

Ive known him for a couple of years and I think hes going to join here. Hes got a lot of good ideas and I think hes got the potential to become a really good modder.

Look up some Xbox FTP tutorials like this: http://www.x-b-o-x.net/modules/sections ... e&artid=96 (you might have to sign up... if so go to http://www.xbox-scene.com)

The encryptomatic signature tool is to make maps work. After you edit the map (Via ch2r, ADI, h2edit) , you run it and click the words in the top left of the box. Then choose the map you modded and it will make it useable.

what do u mean by red, white, and blue plugins? all you need is an ethernet card in your laptop.

Yes you can w/ a laptop. Use a crossover cable for a straight connection, and a standard ethernet cord through a router.
