HaloMods "Classic" Read-only Archive

I have two problems. One, I'd like to try and skin a little bit, but my comp won't let me open the .dds files. What program do I need for this?

Also, I'd like to apply skins to just one map. Is this even possible? If so, how?

It's not possible to apply a skin to only one map (unfortunetly...) because to save space, halo has one huge maps file (bitmaps.map), which hold every single bitmap, and whenever you inject a texture, it changes the bitmap in the bitmaps.map file, so the skin on every level is changed... Make sense?


To skin you only need Photoshop, or Paintshop Pro, and the respective plugin, and HMT.

Or a converter program which can be found in the utilites section that way you dont HAVE to use photoshop for those who dont have it
