Oh god another Graphics card thread!

But I'm not asking which one to get believe it or not...I'm looking for answers!
I recently got an ATI Radeon 9550 256M AGP, replacing my also semi-new PowerColor Radeon 9250 256M AGP.
Now, you'd think...being a 9550 and all, it would run better than the 9250....I only wish!
After I installed the drivers for it an all, I tried running Halo. I got the "Problem initializing Direct3D, Hardware Acceleration may be disabled" or whatever the message was. I found the fix for that, a little .dll file that I dropped into both Halo and Halo Custom Edition.
So it runs now...whoopdeedoo! I just wish it ran half as well as it did with the 9250! with that, I could easily get 40-60 fps running on no vsync with specular off during a big fight. But with this new 9550, I'm lucky to get 10-15 when 2 plasma grenades go off! I've gotten the latest Catalyst drivers (4.12), tried setting the card for performance, then quality, then right in the middle...but nothing works!
Pleeeease help meeee!
P.S. I remember someone telling me awhile back about some kind of Omega drivers that were homebrewed and actually kind of good for running games. Can anyone elaborate on what these are?
