Whenever I create a server no one joins it because my router with built in firewall blocks them.

can anyone please help me!

is there a way to turn the firewalll off?

well the router is a:

NETGEAR

DG834G 54mbps wireless ADSL firewall router.

Your router should have a feature for Port Forwarding. You will need to goto that part of your router's configuration and forward port 2302 (or whatever port your server is running on) to the same port on your computer (you'll be using your private IP here).

I use a Linksys wireless router, and my brother uses a Netgear, and recently we were kind of surprised to find out that neither router blocks the hosting of an Internet game. One option for you might be to just temporarily bypass the router if the router and modem are within easy reach. You will need to do a restart or use IPCONFIG to get a new IP address after going direct, and then also after going back behind the router.

Before you do that, make sure you aren't making the same dumb mistake I did recently. I was trying to find a hosted game that I knew was online, but could not. Turns out it was because I was only seeing games hosted on dedicated servers. I had to click on the server icon at the top of the second column in the online games list. My friend's game then showed up when I could now see the non-dedicated servers along with the dedicated ones. When the icon is colored blue you are seeing all games.

can someone tell me exactly what to do because i dont know a thing about routers and networking.

you need to get into your settings of your router (type in IP address of your router, your documentation should have more info on that)

then you need to go in and find firewall and turn it off, or go to applications and gaming page or sumthin, and setup some stuff in there, and then it should work.

make sure the ppl who connect to your router actually CONNECT to your router, they might have incorrect settings that prevent them from transmiting of data... even if the wireless card or network cable says its connected, ping it just to make sure.

Allright.
The DG834G uses standard router IP.
Go to the address bar and type 192.168.0.1
If something pops up asking for a password either put admin for the name and password for the password or put in whatever you may have changed it to.
Navigate to the Services section.
Click Add Custom Service.
Type Halo for Service name.
Put the type on UDP (or TCP if UDP isn't there).
Change the starting port to 2302 and the ending port to 2303 and hit apply.
All done there.

I'll try that now.
