Hello everyone, I need some serious help. I am a frequent xbox halo player and I want to try it on the PC. I have heard rumors that its better one the PC so i became inspired to form my own opinion. I started to plan a gaming computer and realized that it might actually be in my price range. I dont really know where to start, so here it goes...

The computers specifacations are as follows:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE Motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE Processor

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE
RAM (two for a total of 1 GB)

Hard Drive

CD-RW Drive

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE
Case and Power Supply

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE
Standard Floppy Disk Drive

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE
Wirless Keyboard and Mouse Combo

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE
Windows XP Pro Operating System

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 025&depa=0
Graphics Card

The above are the compnents that Im buying from newegg.com. PLEASE give me feedback, I need your help as I have never built a custom PC before. Are the above mentioned components all compatible?

If they all work, the specifacations should be as follows

2.66 Ghz Celeron Processor
40 GB Hard Drive
1 GB DDR RAM
52x Read 32x Burn CD-RW drive
Radeon 9600 256MB Video Card

Will this run halo well? I followed some guidelines in a HBO HaloPC faq, everything here was designed to exceed the "Requirements to make halo run so nicely that your mother will want to cry." Thanks alot for all of your help and I will check this post daily to answer any comments and questions so please ask!

You should check the prices of those same parts using www.pricewatch.com. It's generally cheaper than newegg.

I have a suggestion:

Get rid of that Celeron. Swap it with a P4. Celeron's are Intel's low-end budget processors.

Thank you for your help, I am basically building this comp on price and statistics. I appreciate your help, do you use a P4? Would that be faster?

screw pentium all together. get a 64 bit athlon. a 2.0 gigahertz 64 bit athlon will smoke even a 4.0 gigahertz pent 4

lucky SOB 8) I'm getting a radeon 9800 pro, it beats my old video card but still not as good as the x800.

Athalon's are crap. They aren't even 64-bit, even though AMD markets them as 64-bit processors. They're 40-bit processors. They aren't too much faster than a P4 of the same speed. P4's do just fine with gaming. The only time you'd need something faster is if you're running a dedicated server off it.

I wish I could upgrade my video card... Gateway had the wise idea of removing the AGP slot from the motherboard and giving me integrated 64-meg Intel video. It plays Halo fine, but I'm afraid it won't handle Half-Life 2 or Doom 3. How well do PCI video cards work?

ok, get a normal 32-bit amd athlon processor, preferbably a athlon 3200+ (they are a lot cheaper than pentiums and also work just about the same), get a corded mouse and keyboard cos 99% wireless keyboards and mouses suck at gaming so get a corded keyboard or optical mouse, get a bigger hdd (normally a 80gb would do perfect), graphics card is just about alright but get a 9800xt 256mb if possible, but if not i say keep with the card that u already are getting and save up for a better one.
