All of a sudden my MP is really crappy?

Ok, I have been running Halo quite well for a while now (Celeron 2.6, 512 RAM PC2100, Nvidia 5200, it's enough). Then 2 days ago, it just starts getting really jerky. It goes fine for a second, then hangs up a half a second, and keeps repeating. I know it's not lag, because i made my own games with same results. I checked all the settings, turned them down, up, etc. Nothing worked. I'm running the same background programs i always have. Does anyone have any experience with this or even better, a solution?

Don't run background programs? - Try that before anything.
