I locked it because it didn't match up. In the beginning, you were budget concious about what card to get.
Then after we Helped you you came back with
"lol, uh my budget is 1000 dollars..."
which instantly looks like a lead to waste our time.
a video card that can play halo pc

yeah. either get a video card for games, or a capture card. i reccomend a video card personally.
also, is this thing going to be hard-wired, or will it use wifi? just tell us what you want it to do, and we'll probably come back in here with more than one choice for each component.

you won't be able to use SLI (dual video cards) unless you buy a motherboard with two PCIe x16 slots with an nVidia chipset that supports SLI, so the windows 98 system you're planing on building off of won't work for dual graphics cards. also, the motherboard it uses will use AGP (maybe even only 4x) so you'll be restricted from using a lot of good cards. if you have 600-1000 bucks to spend, then don't bother restricting yourself to building from a 98 system to save cash and try to play newer games. i've got to start packing for michigan, but here's a few quick components i picked out.haloskillz.com wrote:i'll duel video cards, and besides everyone, im getting a cheap shitty windows 98 from a friend for free, and a 120 GB Hard drive, all im going to buy is

if the windows 98 case uses the ATX motherboard formfactor, that will probably save a good 100 bucks for keeping you from having to get a case.
2 of these = $140 - $280 USD.
this appears to be a decent motherboard. = $120 USD
this processor looks pretty decent. you may also want to investigate dual-core options = $103 USD
the 2x1 GB 184 pin DDR ram packages are all around the $200 buck range, and you really won't need that much to play halo. you may want to start with this 1 GB stick, then buy one later OF THE SAME MODEL TYPE (as in, this very exact same link), add it in, and set it to dual-channel mode in your BIOS. = $110 - $220 USD
this appears to be a good PSU. = $75 USD.
buying the list i have up there with both videocards and DDR sticks would run you around $798 USD right now, but if you wait until you buy the extra videocard and DDR stick, you'll only spend a total of $548 on everything in that list. please note, that i'm excluding things you'll be able to salvage off of older computers and upgrade later if you have to, like mouse, keyboard, speakers, case, monitor, etc. but if you do have to buy a case, you may be able to save some cash with a case + PSU combo.
keep in mind, i'm doing this 20 minutes before i have to leave for michigan, and i haven't packed my pc or clothes yet, so i might've missed some compatability stuff, so double-check that stuff or have someone double-check it for you.
