Gah, help with skinning

Post by Raptor Jesus »

I can't find any good tutorials on skinning for halo 2. All the ones i've found are too vague and don't help me much. They just tell me what to do when you get the .dds file. I have no idea how to find this file. I'm trying to reskin the brute shot grenade. Any tutorials on how to do this will help.

.dds is a file format. (Direct Draw Surface) Like .bmp, .jpg, etc...

What you do is go into dothalo and open your map. Then, open the [bmp] tag. And then find the bitmap you are lookig for. (objects\weapons\support_low\brute_shot) extract the image and it should ask where to save it. Put it at an easy accessible place.

Ok, now get a porgram called DXTBmp. Open the image in it. Now double click it and the image comes up in MS Paint. Edit and save as. Save it in the same place as the .dds image was saved. Also double click the small, greyscale image at the side. (if it is all white, don't even bother) Don't do anything to it. just save it in the same place as the other two.

Now, in DotHalo, within the place where the original image shows up, you should see some text that starts with DXT. memorize the number(s).
Now in DXTBmp, open the .bmp you saved first. (the main colored image) at the top, click alpha and click import alpha channel. now find the greyscale image you DID NOT MESS WITH and choose it. Now save image as dds. and it will ask for a format. The number you memorized earlier is the type you choose.

Now, open a program called H2IB. Open the same map. Once it opens, find the bitmap you are working on. choose #1 in the pull-down box. then choose non-proper method and internalize it.

Once it is done, go back to dothalo open up the tag again and inject bitmap! All done.
