Windows XP cant delete

My friend has a problem with his computer where he cant delete anything

not just like where its a Spyware program that wont let you delete itslef, you make a Star.bmp in paint, you cant delete it.
the error it gives is

Error Deleting File or Folder

(X) Cannot delete the *whatever*: Data error, (cylic redundancy check).

thank you but all spoke of prgrams to delete stuff as opposed to finding waht the porblem is caused by and how to fix it

must be some sort of virus that did something

oh but you can still remove programs, at least with add/remove programs

has he tried running programs such as AdAware, Spybot, Hijack This and other anti-virus/spyware programs to check his computre is alright?
A good free anti-virus is AVG

yea i ran spybot for him and got 290 things, adn fixed 285

he has avg too, and ad aware
