I'm still in my introductory phases in 3DS max and for fun i'm trying to create an RGM-79D from Gundam here is a pic of it
all i have done so far is the feet
i am trying to work my way to the legs but i have no idea how to make the swirve on the front of the legs only solid square edges. I tried soft selection and setting things the kirk way but i don't see any curve in the preview any help. By the way, I'm hoping to talk to mister mech breakthrough so maybe we can get a gundam or two in

u cant go past a certain number of faces when makin a model for halo....u cant make it go back down unless u make it less complex.....and as far as rounded edges go, that'll only increase the poly count by a shit load

well say i was to redo this and make a lesser poly count what option do i need to select in 3ds max to make the curves? and yeah i'm definately not going to stay below 1500 poly's :-/but i'm just tryin new stuff ya know

well, theres no option for makint it less poly, polys are the amount of triangles in a 3d model, and the more triangles, the harder it is for a computer to make it appear on the screen, high poly models make low-end computers have bad FPS, that is why i look down when i have a bad FPS, because the ground is always VERY low poly.
anyhoo, u can make a cube, with a hight sections interval of let's say.. 5, and move those verticed on the side out a bit, so the top becomes fatter, and the bottom... doesnt.
also, for lowering poly's, weld vertices, such as this..
this 1 is 8 polys..
----------

|-----|----|

make it into this.
-------------

-----------
only 2 polys.
u ask why is 1 square 2 polys?
thats because a poly can only be a triangle.

like that. there are propably alot of these, and also there will be thigs with vertices that wont matter if theyre removed, if u want it to look smooth.
a cylin der of 6 edges can look smooth, when u use the Smooth option.
i prefer an octagon, because its somewhat smoother.
hope this helps u.

btw, if u need help, MSN me.
EDIT: why wont my spaces work?
cant be arsed to find out, i gotta go. srry.
just put in the spaces urself
