Thank you guys for all your help...I never figured out the visor so I just did my own thing on it because I was confused. Anyways, here is my finished model.

All this talk about Detail and what not got me looking at my spartan. In alot of renders ive seen from bungie there are chip details. Ive been trying to work out a way to maybe have another material on the spartan to make the chips basically another material but dont have enough knowledge on how to do it. So instead i created a chip mask and chip detail which are just cut out from the diffuse map really. In the render below i used it as part of the secondary bump (composite of metal dirty and chip detail, lowered the output bump amount to look right) and in the diffuse slot where the metal_dirty is I made that a composite of the dirty metal and the chips (which i used the mask layer and detail) I had to up the output of the detail map to make it brighter otherwise it looked like dark chips. IDK let me know what you think.

Here are the chip maps i created :)

Im fairly new to this so I didnt expect it to be perfect but ill work on it cause i know its possible to do cause the pic in your advatar does shows it perfectly. Of course that is probably done by someone who actually knows what they are doing rather than a carpenter who plays around with a 3d program in his spare time

edit Found a PIC :)

Ok i made a few adjustments. Which looks better, please dont tell me they both look bad cause thats not the question im asking, thank you :)

i like it with chips, but what you should do is set up a blend material and mask of the chipped section so you can set up an entirely new material for them. the actual chip bump map however needs work. the knees look bad and a few other places as well.

If I am correct in my memory, Veegie (Vegito619) had a hand in creating that image, along with RW.

They get saved as .DDS files. Search these forums, the photoshop plugin is on here somewhere.

Nevermind... I found it two threads below this one:

Haha, I thought the exact same thing...

BTW, is there a tutorial for modelling multiplayer maps in 3ds Max? If not, what do you extract in ADI?

To extract map BSPs, you'll need to use Entity. I can also supply you with Maxscripts to place the scenery BSP (No rotation coords though, just positions)

"supply"? as in, to make publically available? that sounds like a dang useful script to me.....

oh, and big thanks to darco. I've been trying to get master chief's mats down for a huge amount of time...your tutorial was both incredibly informative and extremely flexible; it taught me something rather than just guiding me through the motions, something too few tutorials do these days. props to you.

I could indeed post them. I could also try to manually add the rotation coordinates for specific pieces.

How would you go about doing that?

that'd be awesome Tural, I have turf, and I was looking to extract the BSP myself. What about materials, are they nearly as hard to put into a BSP as they are on the MC
