This is for the complete newbie to Photoshop and its capablities of skinning, I try to discuss the basic tools you will need and telll you what each tool does. obviously I cannot say everything, it would be a huge file. Photoshop has so much to offer.

I hope this Basic warthog skin walk-thru helps you. it should be more than you need to know to do skins.

I visually take you from getting the bitmap from Halo and take you back into the game with the new skin all good to go. giving you some tips on what I have learned on skins.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I will try to answer them.

I state what tools you will need in the beginning so if you want get them all here now.

HMT is free (and a small file), You need that just to get the file out of Halo and then I guess you could use MS Paint, you tools would be limited to you though. If you can get a copy of Photoshops Trial, you can skin with all it power for 30 days. There is also a MUCH cheaper version of Photoshop out there called Photoshop elements, Just a few things are missing, like the history palette from what I am told. I think they are important tools to have but if you have to use it, it will be far better than Paint.

wow, great tutorial. I was curious, I saw in the hotrod screenies that there were two black hogs and in the distance was a white hog. How dou you go about having more than one skin type in a game and is there a limit to the amount of skins you can load back into HALO?

the white one was the chaingun warthog, the hotrod was the rocket warthog. the white one is also downloadable here. look for the generals warthog in the files pc upload section.

wow, great job on the tutorial, but wondering if you could make a tutorial or addon to that one on where everything is in the hog skin, cause i can change the basic color add camo and stuff, but adding things like flames, striped, and a bumper sticker are difficult cause i dont know whree it would go

I was thinking of making a more difficult "add-on" for the tut. I was half way through the hot rod warthog, or I would have done that one, but there was alot involved in that skin believe it or not, quite a pain. but worth it. I though it looked cool, sides, I always wanted to drive something with a skull and crossbones staring back at the enemy. lol.

If I do another tut, I will not be going over to uch from the first as I would hope people would have read the first and know the basics of photoshop.

But I will take a break for a few days to actually play halo again. Look to kick my ass on-line! on-line name is Donut. Like hundreds of others I'm sure.

its a problm!!!

From whatI have read , the closest you can get is to change the color of the shadow under the warthog. Have fun with the skin. and watch it, it is addictive.
