Why is he holding a Battle rifle? I thought they were just made in first strike...

no they were in use for a while, the spartans just didn't use them until now, and why would the current br be the first one there could have been many models before.

The prototypes were made in first strike.

But who says thats a BR? Could be a different model like with all the different pistols -.-

i don't remember the time span between first strike and the beginning of the first book. but the battle rifle was a prototype by first strike so it's possible it was in use on harvest.
