ok well this is a pic of my first map for halo ce , im new to halo ce modding but many of you may know me from the halo pc modding scene.
About the map:
ok firstly i dont like the name i have given it that much so im open to suggestions for a new name, read the follwing description to get a feel of what kind of map it is and what name would suit it. If i use your suggested name i will give u credit when i release the map.
As you have proberly already grasped by the look of the map it is a beach map. The basic idea is that i will put a boat down one end in the water wich is the attacking teams base and there is a bunker down the other end of the map wich is the defending teams base , all nice and simple. The map terrain conssits of high cliff that are scalble perfect for sniping from. On the ground there are craters left from were artillery shells have hit the ground.
The theme of the map, suggestions needed!:
This is what i am unsure of, i origionally thort about making it WW2 style , making ww2 vehicles and weapons and bipeds , not sure how to make bipeds tho :S, but later i became unsure wether it would suit the map best doing it this way. I am open to suggestion on what them the map shoudl be as i said before i will give credit were due if i use any of your suggestions.
Special little somethings
I want to make this map as playable fun and proffesional as possible so i have a few " surprises" of what it will contain to come.
Heres a litle piccy, feedback positive or negative are both apreciated

yes i did that just how it sad on the tut.
but this message came up.
### Crater_cove_ground.tif
bitmap created: #512x#512, compressed with color-key transparency, 170K-bytes
Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I created my texture in adobe photoshop however, because i do not have a working copy of paintshop pro anymore. Therefore i could not work out how to add alpha layers , alpha channels?
Would this cause this problem?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The next prblem came wen i tried to create the structure. the follwoing mesage came up
Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'

### ERROR couldn't build bsp because of overlapping surfaces (orange).
### ERROR couldn't build bsp2d.
### ERROR couldn't build leaf.
### ERROR failed to import collision bsp.

your bitmap is fine, however, you have a slight error in your map. If your using 3ds, open your map and while it is open, go to import, and browse to your Halo Custom Edition root directory, and import the .wrl file it created. If your map's name is pie, it will be pie.wrl. Just import that. Once you clikc import, a box will come up with 3 check marks. Uncheck all 3 and your message said [orange] so look for something orange on the map and it will show you the general error on your map, so just delete and rebuild that small portion, don't over delete

just message me if you need some help fixing it.

looks pretty boring. nothing but bigg jagged cliffs and holes in the ground. y'know, you would benefit from taking a look at blood gulch or sidewinder or something, to look at the playability. you would benefit from high and low points. maybe trenches or walls... something. there's nothing that would be too fun about jumping in holes then running accross open terrain. holes get you fragged, open terrain gets you shot.

Hmmm....too bright, too yellow. Try a more tanish color, more realistic.

the actual color probably is different than that. since thats not a render or anything like it, its just a straight diffuse so no lighting has effected it. what program are you using?

Yes i was goin to adjust the brightness / darkness once it was inagame and i could see what i looked like , i di try darker colours in photoshop but they dident look right.
I am using adobe photoshop cs2 , i am pretty useless with any form of imaging software.
