At least one person who has it says he got it from getting all of the achievements, as is how he got the Security helmet.

Let's think about this. If I took a separate image for every combination, I would need to build 1.75tb of images into the program. Fantastic idea.
Second idea would be for me to manually go through, cut out every single permutation; armor detail, helmet, shoulder, shoulder, chest, secondary, primary. I would need a different image for every single piece, and then combine them on the fly in the program, that would still be several gigs, and would require an ungodly amount of time and effort.
That idea will never work, ever, under any circumstance. Please consider the reality of your suggestion before you go around acting as though your idea is so great.

Awesome. Bungie put it back up now, and they fixed the Steel Secondary Color issue, Steel no longer causes the permutation to be White.
Win.
Also, latest version (A few days ago), has no major changes, but I added an easter egg for a certain person. If you find it, you'll know who it was for.

Does this change the snapshot only or also the character when you play online meaning you dont have to unlock it to play with the armor?

This doesn't change anything to do with your Halo 3 account, this just generates the Player Shapshot hence it's name. It's just showing you the different permutations etc.

k. Apparently my comments weren't clear enough. I stated that the only useful time period it had was before the game was released, and that the only reason it was updated past then is to satisfy requests of people who wanted to use it. You can criticize me for whatever, but I don't even use it due to how pointless it is, so I suppose you're trying to argue with someone who agrees with you, which doesn't make much sense at all.

Why would someone want snap shots of the armors...... I have to agree it is pointless, I think it would be better if you hacked the game and made a program that unlocked the armors............... there was no point in using this before halo 3 came out cause obviously you be called a fake and a noob O.o the NOOBS lolololol

1) To plan their armor out if they don't have one, see what things look like, etc.
2) We mod. We don't hack. Hacking is more of a negative connotation, such as cheating. At one point, I'm sure it will be possible to mod a profile to use whatever permutation(s) you want, but for now...no.
3) Actually, releasing it before Halo 3 came out was the first time we saw some of the armors, and allowed people to plan their armor selection before the game was even out. No one called it fake, or called Tural a noob. It was known from the start that it just manipulated Bungie.net's URL, so there was no reason to believe it was "fake."

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the link on the second page, but it gets the job done. And I'm kind of thinking of doing another project involving this so I can just recycle the code...
