Transfer Cable Idea

Well the other day I got to thinking about the transfer cable. The original purpose of the Transfer Cable is to move memory from a 20Gb hard drive to a 120Gb hard drive.

That made me think, when it transfers data, it also transfers Halo 3 game saves. And I thought well if it transfers from one HDD to another, maybe it resigns it when it does it.

I mean think about it, you stick a CD into your hard drive and transfer maps from one HDD to another. Maybe the Transfer Cable has a built in resigner of some sort, or maybe the CD has one.

Just my thought please tell me what you think.

The file is already signed. It just moves it.

Items do get altered, such as XBLA games, which only function on the console they were downloaded on. However, this is not, in any way, done by the cable. The console itself has software to do this during the transfer, and it was added in a dashboard update around the time the Elite and 120GB hard drive came out. Given that the console signs saves when they are made, you are accomplishing nothing new by suggesting this, as it is doing the same thing it does normally, it's just doing it during transfer instead of during creation. The cable is just a cable, you'd have to reverse engineer the console's software and whatever else to do this, the cable has nothing to do with anything. There's nothing to discuss here.

Wrong if its moved form one console to another the console ID of every save, gamerpic, arcade game, theme, etc has to be change to the new console, the profile ID doesnt because its the same profile so the profile ID doesnt need edited

So Tural is saying This isnt possible and Spartan-Omega is saying it might be possible.

Who is right?

No, Spartan Omega is saying that the during the transfer the console ID is changed. Tural is saying that the cable has nothing to do with changing any ID's, that it's the 360 itself.

Basically, you can't do it. Spartan Omega is just correcting somebody, he's not saying it's possible.

Im 2000% sure that the Console checks the RSA Hash to verify that the content is signed, if it is, the console will change the deviceID then resign. If it isent resigned it probalys skips it.

Actually they were both in agreement. The transfer process does involve resigning, but that has to be done at a software level for (extremely) obvious reasons.

Ya, the cable comes with software

You still can't use it to mod either way. This idea will not work, and it is pointless in trying to do so. The process does not work like you think it does.

From my understanding, the cable simply allows the xbox to read the second hard-drive. What the software that comes with it does is that it provides the interface for the cable such as if it was a memory card or something of the sort. From there, the software will start to transfer each file to the 360. Now the 360 will then resign the saves the EXACT same way as if a game wanted to save it. Aka it gives the data to the 360, and the 360 resigns it itself instead of the software disk that comes with your migration kit.

That is correct and as Tural said this will not work

Actually you can mod halo 2 and 3 with the cable!

There is no way MS would forget to check Container hashes, and Halo 2 has no hashes so the only thing you could do is put modded maps on you HDD, which is really old.

Yeah this thread needs to be locked. It is impossible; it is a dead end.
