Why don't Beta progs work with Retail maps?

Why don't Beta progs work with Retail maps?

I've read through the beta modding topic and the retail modding topic and I kinda got lost. I noticed there were some basic programs for reading tags in beta maps and I was wondering why they havn't been converted for retail maps. I noticed prey's app called mango, it lets us see the filenames. What do we need in order to sort the tags.

well first you need the header of the file you need to create a programe that will open and read the .map file and you need plugins to show meta. basicly where still on the programing part wich is not that easy.

I did some work making plugins for H2 tags. I noticed the H3 maps look kinda similar. I know as soon as a program is out, I'll start working on plugins for H3 tags. Even if we can't make mods yet, we'll at least be able to search through the files for interesting stuff.

Well we've found out enough info in the retail maps now to sort the tags into classes etc. Just I haven't updated Mango with that info.

? The programming is by far the easy bit. It's the research into the map file that is the hard part.

The metas have probably gone through some optimisations/iterations, so I wouldn't think that tags are still going to follow the same layout just because the filenames are the same.

well i made a crap load of plugins for h3beat i transfered the h2 tags then deleted what wasent used about98% then changed the name on a few. it should be supper easy

That's a gross oversimplification of the process, not to mention quite improper.
