Well, I have noticed letter issues throughout the forum. Some topics/posts are displaying odd symbols instead of letters and it was not like that before the move. Look at this topic's title:
http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=47744
And look at this topic. It has a question mark in a triangle in place of the dots:

I'm not so sure I'm seeing what you're seeing.

That's Firefox 3's method of depicting characters not installed on your computer. They will display differently on different browsers. However, the characters in question are installed, such as the trademark ™, and should be rendering correctly.

the same thing is happening to me on Safari. I have those characters installed, so i think there might be a problem.

Never had that problem previous to the forum move.

It was caused by the move, as indicated by inclusion in the list. :3

I'd say the character problem is pretty big:
maca_§ wrote:
I would have replied in Tural's server problems thread but I cant because the § in my username has been changed to a '' and so has everyone else's usernames with an § symbol in it... whatever it's called..
I was hoping you could post this up or even see if changing the with my § would fix it from my profile link.
I'm gathering that he's saying he can't log in anymore due to the issue. And a HM without maca isn't right...

I could temporarily change his name if he wants, so he can access his account during this time period.

Here is another thread that has a huge mess of symbols:

Do you guys have any plans or ideas on how to fix this?

I'm glad I brought it up.

There are two people who can fix it, Grenadiac and Iron_Forge. Gren isn't around, Forge doesn't have access to the server. No. Nobody here can do anything about it, so there is no reason to continue discussing it. The only post besides the first one (Yours) that was important was Scotty's.

Not sure if this is server related or just me, but I am having trouble with getting pages to recognise that I have read them. I know there is a button at the bottom that says "Mark all as read" but I want to read some of the new posts later. I read a post, then refresh, then close the page, i go back to the forum Index, then the section I was in says it has new posts, I go there, and the new ones are the ones I just read.

I think it may just be you because I just did the process you posted and I had no problems.

For reference, I just changed maca_§'s name to be correct. Apologies for not doing it earlier, I had misread his quote. It appears the characters got messed up during the move, but are fine now, after it. If there are any pressing issues with characters, they can be reported through the report system and addressed (Edited by staff to be correct) that way.

I do see the "diamond with question mark" symbol in some of these posts. I've been trying to locate information on this and it appears to be related to the collation/character set used. I'm not sure if it's a mysql, php, or apache problem...but I'm trying to narrow it down. If anyone has used special symbols, can you tell me how you normally insert them into your text? That could be helpful in isolating the particular collation set that SHOULD be used.
As for the avatars and file uploads, I changed some permissions around and hopefully that should be working. Let me know if it doesn't.

Special characters can be used via two methods I know of, one of which being holding Alt and pressing a sequence on the number pad. For instance, é is Alt+0233. Another method I'm aware of is using Windows' charmap program. Start > Run > "charmap" or Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
Don't know if that helps any.

The attachments now work. I just tested it and they upload properly. Thank you for fixing that.
