i was just wondering everyopne jumps on people who rip models from halo 2 but everyone ignores the fact that people rip halo 1 bsp....
sure yea the bsp can be obtained with hek but you must have the pc game if you want to install ce and then install hek....
technicly its not open source seeing as you have legaly obtain the pc version of halo.
wouldnt that mean all the halo 1 content being put into halo 2 be classified as ripped?

I've always believed so.
There was only one instance of it actually being covered and that was when Team DeFiance decided t rip the halo1 model flamethrower and put it in halo2...They were then not allowed to release it.
There does seem to be alot of Halo1 to Halo2 ripping...Textures and models and now it appears to be bsp colission meshes or the visual meshes...
Although I am only assuming, I would think that everyone that owns Halo2 would have bought Halo1...But then again that would be a bad assumption.
Who says the stuff being ripped is from halopc though =sw=warlord?

its just a thought seeing as theres alot of .map files on the forums and one can easly use hmt to extract the fp model from a rebuilt map file...

every halo 2 modder also has a modded xbox, which is in almost all cases illegal.
peaple try to stay as legal as possible, but its near-impossible to mod halo legally.

i wasdnt asking about modding xboxes though was i that has nothing to do with this site although it does condone modding xboxes and somtimes encourages people to do so...
the point is people are ripping content from halo 1 and getting away with it but when people rip from halo 2 they get jumped on unless tey are famous for one thing or another.

Why do people always bring up the "modding an Xbox is illegal" argument? That's changing the subject, we know good and well the legalities of modding an Xbox or game, so there is absolutely no reason at all to bring it up.
As for ripping, TSF did it for Halloween I believe, he included a disclaimer telling people not to download it unless they legally owned Halo 1.

tural i dont think a dislaimer would help with the legal matters other wise some one could rar the whole halo 2 game on to a torrent and put a disclaimer saying yep this is the full halo 2 game for xbox dont download it though if you dont have the original halo 2 disk....

I didn't suggest a disclaimer, I said that TSF did it, this is not about me. Also, ROMs work like that.

no i was just pointing out that tsf may have tried a invalid way of making it seems its legl roms are techinicly illegal as well as far as i can tell they contain the whole game people download em for free and then contribute to piracy.
any how any admins mods mind sharing their thoughts on this?

Does it really matter.. Now a days everything a man/women does is illegal..
[Edit] Most of the H1 to h2 stuff is just models people made and arent ripped directly from the game. But I see where you are coming from.[/Edit]

Then the people downloading them without owning the games are the ones causing the problem, not the people that host them with a disclaimer.

the site still has a responceablity to maintain that it is within the set laws and does not break any laws.

If it is only the site that has the responsibility, then a disclaimer telling people they have to own a certain thing or two to download, protects the site...As people who don't have it are breaking the rules if they were to download, not the site.
So would you be suggesting the site implement such a thing? Prefix style

We could just continue to not allow ripping. =sw=warlord, we haven't allowed any downloads, pictures are one thing, downloads are another.

Haha...I didn't think of that

I instantly got interested when I read this statement. Not to be a snitch but TSF put some halo1 sounds in his Halloween Mod called Overflow on beavercreek. He was not threatened to remove it or even notified(from what I know) Just think of some random John Doe did the same. He would be flamed and would ahve it deleted.
I personally think Halo 1 ripping should be allowed. If bungie really had a big problem about modding; they would have this site gone. Every1 in someway here is a criminal. WE could all be fined and bungie could be more wealthy because of this. Now, why havnt they done this already? They must not care enough to make it a big problem. So whats the deal with ripping....
THOUGH, I can understand perfectly if you rip content from another software company.

Doorm4n...That is just silly

The reason this site isnt shot down is because halomods doesn't support the map file uploading...all we do is have patches that apply changes we make. So basically the person has to own the game to be able to do the patches anyway.
And the fact that Tural has already outluined what TheSwampFox did to allow the ripping to a degree anyway...

We keep illegal content to the minimum, that is why we exist.

We may modify the game, but at least we don't support LIVE modding.
I couldn't imagine the scene if we did. =x
<3 Bungie. Take as long as you want on Halo 3.

modding is legal, did you ever hear of the constitution ammendments, stating that you have the freedom to do what you want with anything you own, now modding the game can be illegal even though you own the game, there have been cases about that go into court. like they didnt want there game tyo be modified, but they should have put a super ncription on it
