Request for more moderators or to bring back the Arbiters

Is somebody flaming or causing problems? Is there a post that is too large for content? Moderators will check here often to discover problems quickly.

There was people with issues long before 2005, sorry to say...

And the amount of moderators is decent...But few of them actually do anything...And I don't think just increasing their numbers helps with the problem...There's also the problem of every moderator following their own set of whats allowed, whats not...And even if things were spelled out clearly for them, there's always disagreements between moderators given the way the ranks were formed over the year...Such is the way of HaloMods...

Which is basically what we've been doing :P Sometimes it's another user that implements the rules on another which sometimes gets the job done. The arbiter role was a plus in my opinion. You would contact a mod and they would take action. The only downside is that sometimes there wouldn't be a moderator online so you would have to watch users suffer, heh. Right now, users are all arbiters. Using the gnarly report button feature is just another way to contact the moderators. So if somehow the arbiter position would come back.. I would see no point in it besides having the psychedelic color in your name.

Iron_Forge, the Universal Rules are there as a guideline for users and moderators alike. Moderators may have their own mindset on how to enforce the rules, but the main problems get done if one were to break a rule stated in the Universal Rules or in each forums seperate rules.

I was a bit surprised from what I saw from a short leave in the H2 Download section (about a week I think?). There was a good amount of threads that have gone off-topic or were just piled with flames. Needless to say, I got a good amount of the job done myself. The quality of moderators can be balanced if there were a good amount of moderators because the job will get done, but for right now, I think it's fine. Gave out a couple warnings, strikes, cleaned out some comments here and there and the problem was solved most of the time.

I agree with ketchup bomb.
But the halo 2 section isnt the only place where the flames gather though the pictures section is a little notorious these days as well...

WEll, that is where the beginners dwell. See with the amount of live modding there is nowadays, people are always asking how to mod. I was listening in on the other team one time in matchmaking, and I heard terms such as "how do you mod"' can I get on live with those?'' and the famous one "DUDE I JUST MADE THIS AWESOME MOD IT HAS 1080 4UTO4IM AND THE PLASMA PISTOL SHOOTS OUT insert thing here" So I think that the live noobs post there mods here and say that they are the greatest, and then that starts a big flame war.

another problem i've noticed is when some people need help. They post asking for help and whatnot. This is what they recieve 90% of the time: a flame, a post with nothing that has to do with the problem, or some jerk thinking they have absolute power cuz they know something you dont. Or another 5% goes to nobody helping them at all and them only watching their post get shoved down the list further so nobody at all will ever see it.

If people follow simple rules they wont need to be flamed why make a topic if you can just search and find what you need.

One thing that might stop the excesive flaming is if users don't flame someone when they break the rules, from what I have seen, that is how most flame wars start.

Sometimes you cant find exactly what your looking for. Then when u go to ask for help on that thing nobody is willing. They just frown upon you and criticize.

Not to defend people who don't research, but the searching here does not always work well. With a forum this massive, it's VERY dificult to find exactly wha tyou are searching for. Especially since the default search option will return posts that only match one word you entered.

someone asks for help some jerk says use the f*ing search button!
ive seen that in the help section as well.
id love to see someone find a tutorial on how to rebuild maps with hhtv5 as hht can rebuild.....
but yea i think if the arbiters were to come back they would have to have some sort of post editing ability other wise it will just be another title like motm or sotw.

well it's nice to see a lot of support from the community on this matter. I feel that Iron_forge is right when talking about that moderators do have there own opinion on topics that can sway decisions, but you can't really correct for that it is human to have an opinion on certain topics. Also the point made about the moderators is a fair one, the moderators that are active do their job quite well, but i do not see any really dedicated h2 downloads moderators, whereas you can find moderators who seem fairly dedicated to the CE, PC and mac sections, which is fair enough, we need the same for H2 Downloads.

It doesn't have to be an incredible amount just 1 or 2 max moderators to be specific for h2 downloads and indeed any section of the forum, then we may find some balence.

It's not that the active mods are doing a bad job, it's the fact that there is not enough of you to monitor all of the forums, especially the h2 downloads section

As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to try to spend more time in that section. My previous visits to it were around... zero.

I wonder sometimes though.
Do people really expect results instantly? This forum is big, yes. But people seem to search for maybe 7 minutes, top.
If they can't find it, then they automatically assume that it has been hidden just from them and they need us to point them to it.

I personally needed some help installing a new OS on a new HDD, and installing a RAID controller. I didn't know where to begin.
So I turned to Google. I searched, and I searched, but I could not find a site that had exactly what I was looking for.
It actually took me three days to find the exact information I needed.

People need to realize that to attain what they really want, they may have to wait a while, and not 2 minutes, 20 minutes, or even 2 hours.
When people are unwilling or uninterested in finding out for themselves, then why should we do it for them?

What we really need is stronger rules against flaming... like when someone tells someone to get cancer and die..... and calling people retarded in the New Users Section should not be allowed.
