Why don't the moderators and admins watch flaming?

Is somebody flaming or causing problems? Is there a post that is too large for content? Moderators will check here often to discover problems quickly.

Why don't the moderators and admins watch flaming?

Post by XBC-Requiem »

Every day, I see people flame... it's getting especially horrible in the Halo 2 section under Downloads and Modding Discussion.

You guys really need to pay attention to this. I've seen people flat out state that someone's mod sucks. That's the kind of BS that should get someone kicked from the forum. It's degrading, immature, and it just makes the person feel bad, like they shouldn't be modding. We don't want that.

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Please. It's a growing problem, and the flamers are going unpunished. I beg you, watch the forums. It's your job. When someone flames, KICK THEIR ACCOUNT. Easy as that. They all know the rules, and they're getting aggrivating. It really isn't difficult to watch the forums. I look through a lot on a good day... in fact, I can look through every new topic if I wanted to... just watch the forums, and when people are breaking the rules, ENFORCE THEM. It's your job.

No, I'm not trying to flame the moderators and admins, but you guys really need to watch this stuff. The rules are here for a reason.

Here is a topic that I posted a few days ago, and it seems to have gone unnoticed by any staff:
(EDIT: It has come to my attention that at least one of the staff members has seen the thread. Thank you, kibito87.)
XBC-Requiem wrote:Why has this thread become a hive for people to flame? I see it all the time, and around here more than anywhere else... even more than in the Downloads thread.

Okay, let's say that someone new asks for help on doing something. Don't immediately tell them to search. I use the search a lot, and quite often don't get the results I need. If you explain how to do something, explain how to do it in FULL detail. If you can't do that, don't bother. Don't tell the person "Do this, this, and this. And seriously, use search next time".

Now, let's say that someone suggests an idea to help someone with a problem. Don't flame the person that gave the idea. At least they are trying to help. All you're doing is causing problems.

Don't flame, people. It makes you look immature and rediculously stupid. It's quite pathetic that you have to say things about other people and try to make them look dumb because you have no right to talk poorly of other people when you are the one what has to talk *stuff* about other people.

In short, don't flame. People who start flame wars are not people that should be allowed to share in the vast pool of knowledge that is HaloMods.

Thanks.

Admins, I think it may be benficial to sticky this or add it to the rules or something, just put it where it won't be drowned by other topics.

We need the users to participate in pointing out things. We can't have someone watch every reply in every board on the whole site. Currently, we are really at a loss of power because the reports system is still not working. This is not something we can do ourselves.

Yes, Tural, I realize that, and thank you for the quick reply.

What I'm saying is that it's not a mere problem... it's FAR out of hand. Maybe you should get some new staff solely for scouting flamers.

It's just that hardly anyone can post anything without being flamed over in this corner of the forum. It's HORRIBLE. If you want, I can site examples, but you'd be here all day reading. It's utterly rediculous.

Someone needs to watch the Halo 2 Xbox area, especially Downloads and Modding Discussion, because those seem only to be gasonline for flamers.

Thank you.

I don't decide how new staff members are chosen, and we don't need any more, really. If we had the report system, this wouldn't be a problem. We, the staff, have no power over getting it working.

Like I said, if there are specific incidents, post them.

I would, but I would seriously fill up this thread. There are too many to keep reporting them. I suppose I can keep a list of people who flame and submit it to you guys once in a while or something. I'll figure it out.

Thanks.

Still, we need more than names to enforce anything. So you're going to need to provide links or quotes. Feel free to fill up the page.

Think you see more junk than we do? Doubt it.

Go nuts. Amaze us with your determination to "fill the thread up".

I'm too lazy to read this wall of text you call a thread, so I'll just say this.

We can't see the reports if people are reporting them via the little ! button, and we can't check every single new post.

So, you are saying because we think someone's mod is bad, we should be banned?

No, he means by saying, "That mod sucks" or "Don't mod ever again" should get you kicked, because he thinks its Bull that people do it all the time.

"That mod sucks!", while not very considerate, is not a flame. You people need to seriously read the rules.

I think one of the problems is a big lack in people moderating the forums, since the merge there is no way the only active moderators can control everything IMO.

There's enough active staff members...but without a report system, it's not as easy to find problems.

Agreed. Flaming is when someone insults another, not their mod/map/graphic etc....

As GTAF said, we have more than enough staff members. If anything, we have more than we need. If the report system was working, this wouldn't be a problem, just as it wasn't on the old boards.

I'm not trying to start a argument, but if you had all the staff you really needed then you wouldn't need a report system.

...

So you're saying we should have so many staff members that we can monitor every post that anyone makes on any board? If so, we'd have about half of the user base as staff members. Try telling me there wouldn't be a problem with that.

Anyways, this discussion is covered. Until the report system is working, you'll need to be posting the problems here as they come up. Also, as Ravn said, if you plan to report something here, it needs to directly break the rules or be worthy of action. Someone saying "This sucks" once doesn't constitute a ban. However, if you see someone constantly doing that, please, let us know.

That's like saying "if there were enough police, firemen and ambulance drivers to monitor everyone, there wouldn't be a need for 911".

To a lesser degree of course. >_>
