at 5/11/2007 10:02 AM i recieved a message from "Disembodied Soul" on Bungie.net regarding the Halo 3 Beta.
Turns out i was invited to download it five days early using a download code for the marketplace.
A.) Anybody else here recieved this invitation?
B.) Is this version different than the one released to the public 5 days later?
p.s. from what i remember, there where only about 5,000 online midday in matchmaking.

It was the friends and family thing. There are many different versions. But the one you where given a code for was the dame as the one we all played.

I received it too.
It was the same as everybody else, we just played it five days earlier.

I, as well.
Same version, there is not a single difference anywhere.

Same beta that was issued with Crackdown. one off topic detail is that the public beta was supposedly the internal Delta.

Anybody know why we were invited?
I mean really, 5000 people?
I don't think it was entirely arbitrary.
I don't really have a name in the modding community, but I did write a big article on bungie.net about two years ago on some Halo 3 stuff.

I got in via the Rule of Three, but no Friends and Family. God I was so excited for that beta.

It was completely random and they did it for fun. There is no hidden meaning or process of selection. People who had active accounts were eligible for invitation. Furthermore, this happened well over a year ago. There is no reason to discuss it now. There's nothing special about it.

Maybe I'm just a bit nostalgic ;]
Who knows, maybe it even had something to do with I.R.I.S.?
Haha, whats "the Rule of Three" mean?

Ugh. Stop bogus theories. There was nothing special, it had no relevance to any ARG, and that doesn't even make sense to bring up.
Rule of Three was a method of entry.
It is a two-step process:
1. Participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions on your Xbox 360 console via Xbox Live during the three (3) day period beginning February 1st at 12:01 am EST and ending February 3rd at 11:59 pm EST.
2. After the three day window is over, head back over to
www.halo3.com on February 5th and register.
If you are one of the FIRST 13,333 to do this (and meet the above requirements) you will receive an invite notification in February to participate in the Halo 3 Beta.
Now seriously, there is nothing worthwhile to discuss, at all.

It was posted on BNet before the beta. What made the Rule of Three nice was that it didn't have the same problems Crackdown had (several day delay), plus I could launch the Beta right from the dashboard (I'm sure you F&F people had the same luxury). Because the Crackdown way took
forever (from when I saw my brother boot into it).

Actually, the Cheneymania medal was removed from the beta with a patch that was distributed simultaneously with the Public Beta's launch.

My favorite Daily Show episode.
