Death of the Mastercheif?

In the new EGM magazine, there is a page with am advertisement for Halo 3 talking about how the Mastercheif "embiggens" simpsons humor the marines of the UNSC. However, there is a statement written over a rather nice peice of artwork with the cheif on it saying "A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."
Is this a hint that the cheif meets his end in Halo 3?
Is there any other evidence for it that you've found?
Do you think he should die?

Hmmm I am thinking that you are correct. According to that quote, it does seem that he will die.

It doesn't say he dies.

Maybe proof isn't the right word then, but it is a strong hint

No, that's how you're interpreting it. You're assuming that's the meaning. It very well may not be. Who says he has to die to be "gone"?

This is just a theory that I thought was interesting enough to post. If you disagree, merely post that you disagree, and leave it.

What? Are you telling me that I'm not allowed to post a logical disagreement? Sorry for initiating a discussing which explains faults in your assumptions. If you're not going to accept other explanations than your own, I suggest you don't bother making the thread. No, I will not "leave it." This is a topic for discussion of the meaning, I am discussing possibilities of the meaning.

Bungie isn't like that. It's going to be huge, and I don;t think any of us are going to guess what happens.

And even if he does die, there wouldn't be official "hints" in magazines. Bungie's smart enough to not give away the ending to magazines. That advertisement, as well as the one posted before, are likely the creations of third parties, not Bungie themselves. Bungie has not revealed the ending to any media, nor to anyone outside of their team. (So if you hear some 9 year old kid telling you that his uncle works for Microsoft and knows, he's full of shit. Bungie has stated that Microsoft "higher ups" aren't even aware of the plot and such.)

Agreez.

I think that maybe it doesn't refer to a specific event in Halo 3. It just says when he is gone; that doesn't necessarily mean he will be gone anytime soon.

that would be weird if the mission said "go get killed by the flood/covenant" or something :)

Which is why it wouldn't.

The Microsoft ad company made the poster, and they have no idea how the story will end, its just an advertisement, don't over analyze it.

I would believe that they deliberatley make things non specific so that people will have a broad idea about what could happen to the chief, be it dying, leaving, being absorbed by gravemeind, whatever...Small unspecific allusions like that would build more curiosity for the conclusion of the game than saying "RIP" :P

I haven't seen this ad, so unfortunatley I can't give much of a point of veiw here :( I don't believe that he would die, as it would stop any future linkings to him in any future games/media...Just gone.

It might also be a reference to how he rarely speaks hehe.

Evidence suggest that Johnson is a Spartan.
