This is a map that i have been working on for abut two days. I need some serious help putting spawns andobjects into the map using tool. If someone could help me with that, I'd appreciate it. This is an early stage of the map it will be drasticaly improved upon later. If you can, please dwonload this map and give me some feedback on it. I think its pretty good.

wtf are those spikes? It looks like you just pulled some verts straight up. The texture on the ground is annoyingly low res (or just not UVW'd properly...)
On another note... crop your images that you posted here... you have a huge white overhang on them and it's kinda just annoying.
I'll download when I see a reason to do so. You haven't shown me a reason to do so.
I know it sounds mean but spend more than 2 days on a map before releasing (even a "beta")

Those 2 images look exactly the same.

Cool to see H2V graphics in 400x300 resolution and saved from MS Paint without resizing the canvas, twice. Looks fantastic.
In addition, this map apparently has two names, Deadlock and Dreadlock.

Wow, I'm sorry but Tural is absolutely right.

Hey now, dude said its the early stage of his map and he's looking for input to make it better. I haven't seen many homegrown maps that were awsome yet but the game is still new. Just keep working on it dude it looks like it could be cool but the ground does look low res, see if you can fix it.

We can't give a whole lot of input when he fails to provide decent images.

Amen. At first I thought my connection got slow from a spike, then I saw the pics were in their highest res as they were uploaded. Please crop them next time and make them bigger. They look like crap.

LAWL! that was exactly what i did. I pulled up some verts with 3ds max. What's pretty funny though is that when i made that map, it was my first time modeling in 3d....ever

i had never used 3ds max before.

I'm still trying to learn how to use it, and it's not very noob-friendly

. The low res textures aren't my fault because every time i tried to use a better one, h2tool wouldn't recognize it and the ground would turn all rainbow-ish

Im probably doing something wrong, but i just can't figure out what...
anyway, I don't mind the tough love...It's my first time making a map, and although you guys might think it is total crap, i spent a good amount of time on it and i think its fairly decent. Also, sorry about the photos....I don't have photoshop here, so i had to use paint..I'll fix that soon. And just so you guys know, It's called DREADLOCK, not DEADLOCK! I made a typo. you don't have to download it if you don't want to....

You still could have saved at a larger resolution and resized the canvas.

Give the guy a break. He is a noob at 3d max, a noob at the map tools, and doesn't have photoshop. Now, if you ask me, from the pics the map looked kinda tight. I'm not going to download it now though. But keep up the good work guy. From the pick I can just say what other people have said, figure out how to increase the res on the texturing.
peace

ok...I decided to start from scratch since the two bases and spike things seem a bit......awkward and plain....but that's why it was a beta. I am using the tutorials for 3ds max now, but i still sorta suck

one thing i can't understand is how do i use custom textures? whenever i try to use one that i made in photoshop, H2Tool rejects it and makes te ground all rainbowish.....wtf? could someone please help? thankyou

Also, if there is a h2v map making team assmbled, Id appreciate it if i could join you.

Don't feel down if your map gets pissed on, it's normal if your work looks like crap. C'mon, Halo 2 has awesome graphics, take advantage of the effects! Put them into your map!

Check out the h2vista.net, they're making progress almost daily unlocking the toolset. If it wasn't possible, explain then how I'm seeing W.I.P.'s with great-looking effects and shaders.
I will agree that Bungie/Hired Gun/MGS did a rather haggard job putting together the editing kit. It should be easier, but there's no way that all the maps ever going to be released are going to look like crap. Sorry.

Yes, I know it's Jahrain, a very talented mapper/modder, but he's
not a robot with special mapping skills. He's human just like this guy, and he got to where he is by releasing maps with tons of effort and dedication.
I'm not trying to smash this guy's dreams of releasing good maps, I'm trying to tell him that he can't release all the maps he makes on the road to becoming a great mapper. Practice hard, maybe one day I'll be referring your work to some guy who's releasing bare-textured wastelands.

Thats a matter of opinion. Take my Xtreme Climb maps. I didn't make them as a combat map, I made them as an alternative gaming map. Even with that being apparent, people still bashed the looks of it and called it a piece of crap, judging it primarilly upon looks, and not what it was intended to be played/judged as. Those who tried out the map liked it, and thought it was a good idea and wish more were made.
In the end though, I can say the Xtreme Climb maps are popular, becuase the 1st Xtreme Climb 200 downloads from halomaps.org, and I'm sure at least 50+ people downloaded it in-game. Xtreme Climb 2 is following the same path too.
I think the Dreadlock map looks good. Just add Super lightmapping, and update the look and you wil have one nice looking map. Keep up the good work.
