[map] New icefields

Hi there

This is my second attempt at making a modded map and has taken quite a long while due to some interest problems with the icefields map, I wanted to do a sidewinder originally but that map has some issues with sparkedit.
Hope you enjoy looking at/playing this one.

I have called it Fire and Ice.

What is different I hear you ask ??

well;
1. shed loads of scenery
2. tunnels in an explosion filled sky
3. ports marked by spot lights and also health pack for those who don't have the mod
4. fog, but not everywhere
5. Platforms of light (not the same as my infinity)
6. teleport booths
7. crashed banshees to trick the noobs
and last but not least,
8. my oven of doom makes a re-appearance (beware ports marked in the normal way)

I will expect the critism that it is a tad overmodded but I think it plays quite well.

blunt honesty time..

1. the name "fire and ice" has been used before i doubt you knew that on a infinity mod i think decoy made. the mod truly was fire and ice because of the theme carried in the map.

2. i can see you know how to pmi. thats cool. but in all honesty the map is way to cluttered. it looks like a bunch of random items placed together trying to make it all work. by that im saying i dont see a theme going on. if fire and ice is referring to "icefields/explosions" then i think you missed the mark some. maybe if you placed the poa explosion multipul times in the sky that would have worked more but i dunno.

why the multi pmi is a good thing the random clutter in the map loses me alot. 7/10 cause i can appricate the effort you placed into it. maybe if you reskinned some of the objects it might be alot better.

Thank you for your comments and I do appreciate your honesty, you've got to take the bad as well as the good.

1. The name was an idea I had that should have been used for Sidewinder and yeah, it's not that original.

2.Point taken, it is a bit overmodded, I guess I just got carried away with all the PMI objects, there are still loads of things that I PMI'ed but never used.
I did try however to place things where they would increase the game play, eg. the prison door (light platforms) and the shaft rings.

I was going to skin some things, like the piston tubes but I had such a nightmare with this particular map I decided to leave it as it is, probably a mistake but after a couple of weeks work I just wanted to get it out there so people could play it.

Sweat, call me a noob all you want, but how did you get the tunnels in the sky? and how did you get the banshees in icefields??
EDIT: I just saw a pelican in the map, AWSOME, lol.

I like it, and I like the fact that you can actually pull yourself together and finish mods, unlike me. Also, you are a god of Sparkedit... :P

The tunnels in the sky are engine pistons taken from map d40 and they are hollow and make good tunnels, I had to put ports in them to bypass the invisible cliff walls.

The banshees do not fly, they are scenery and designed to confuse people, there are crashed and aflame and will cause damage if a player tries to get in them.

I agree with that point at certain times while testing the map on LAN with nobody else in the game i was getting some graphical lag. btw my Halo was windowed at 680x400. the white smoke was a bit much.

yeah, I knew that you cant use the banshees (I do know how to use sparkedit :P ) but thats pretty cool how you got the tunnels. I'll proble download it when I get to my comp later today.

Dude, ever thought of making a full overhaul of all maps? Youre fantasic use of SparkEdit and Pming, combined with some skins, would make an truly extraordinary mod! 10/10

First of all, Dude... NO

Dudette ... YES

lol

There is a port to the top platform from each base that leads to a platform near the top of the wall, the port on there will then take you to the top platform

You can also access the tunnels from 2 ports on the side of the central bridge, look for the health packs and spotlights.

This is now running as a FUN clan server and a 2 small changes have been made
1) a little less fog at the bases
2) the destination of one of the ports has been relocated to stop it becoming too easy.

btw for everyone to get up there, you have to grenade jump up to it. also i am a bit pissed about the flame ovens. i did fine a way on how to get out of them though...

one more thing. the other thing i would like to see is more solid walkways. the ones that are the cell doors from the level a50. the plasma ones.

I am a bit confused

those ports are easy to reach, I do not understand where you are having problems.

The walkways are made of the prison doors and they are not solid for a reason, it is relatively easy to use them once you get the hang of it.
Can't make it too easy for people.

I had people complaining that its too easy to fall off the walk ways in my infinity map, do people really want safety rails in a game that involves shooting ????

Rose I must say this is impressive. I was playing on your server yesterday and those oven's baked me raw. Also I like how long the invisibility lasts very smart. But the fog sometimes it appears and sometimes it disappears. Anyways this is a great map.
