No it doesn't. In Sapien you can use a radiosity airbrush to add lighting to the level.

It sounds like you didn't change the material ID for the walls and ceiling...make sure you select the floor of the level and set that ID to 2 and the walls and ceiling should be 1

How many peaks/mountains do you have in the scene. If there are very few then radiosity wouldn't take long to calculate...If you ran radiosity_start and you got the zero's, and then you ran radiosity_save, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't show up other than it is a flat plane and your cam...

its easier to just run an stl check in the modify tab, on the pull down list (same one with edit mesh in it) there is an option called stl check.
