When i load a picture into GMAX as a background to have reference for a model it appears all screwed up like it had mapping wrong or something. help please.

My 3DS max wont register and my GMax doesnt install so im wondering if anybody knows a good 3D modeling prgram besides milkshape or Maya. ANy help?

I got 3DS max demo from the discreet website and when i open up the program it asks me for my serial # when it never gave me a serial number and i dont see where to get a serial number. ANy help?
