Guide to know what is what when skinning.

Post by bigshot007 »

:D I need help with knowing what is what part of the skin when i am skinning. is there any way of knowing besides testing the skin in halo every time you add something? Do you just have to do it a million times before you know what is what? Could some one put like a pic with arows pointing to each part of the gun, or have 2 pictures, one 3d having #s on the different parts of the gun, and on the regular the same #s on it. Kind of like a key to the map(the key being the 3d skin and the regular being the map). The skin i am working on is the sniper multipurpose and the regular.

sorry dude, guess and check is the only thing out there. But why would you ask someone else to do it?! I mean, unless that person is getting credit for every skin done on that bitm then why would they? Its boring as hell, annoying as hell, and long as hell. but some bitms are obvious (eg:needler)

Sorry dude

Appreciate the feedback. I was just wandering if someone new this stuff like the back of his hand and could show me easly. It has nothing to do with getting something out of it, but by showing sombody cares to help.

unfortunately, i don't know enough about UVW mapping to write a program for that... my idea was that you can import a gbx model into 3ds max, open its uvx unwrapping, export it to a jpeg or whatever, then release it to the pc users who don't have the tools/patience to do that. What it would look like is the wireframe of the model flattened onto a canvas the same way the texture is applied to the model. Then i promptly realized how much tedious work it would be to do all that to a bunch of models, and let it go. However, i think criticfarm was thinking about doing it.... anyways, theres your method, if you can do it go for it...

Why not just take a few panoramic shots in SparkEdit?
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.
