It seems that, every time I rebuild b40, I can't open it in SparkEdit, never mind play it, why? I can rebuild campaign maps, but b40 doesn't like me. I think it might be the BSP, as in, the one you replace with your de-crapped models. According to HMT, the 'starting' BSP, with an offset of 0x800 or whatever, is called 'b40_a'. Should I overwrite the one you actually start in, 'b40_a1'?
Any help would be nice,
Phil

^Above post = completely irrelevant. >_>
Never actually tried doing it with b40_a1.. since it takes like an hour to batch extract B40 on my computer.. xD
I've always wondered that too. I'd suggest trying to rebuild it with something simple, maybe just PMI'ing a gun or something just to see if it works.Philleh wrote:According to HMT, the 'starting' BSP, with an offset of 0x800 or whatever, is called 'b40_a'. Like the internet site, babelfish is translating crap.
I respect your willingness to help, but I did state that I am quite the 'hunky-dory' (whatever that means) with rebuilding maps. Anyway, I'll make some backups of the BSP's and go ahead with UPS's suggestion.

one sec philly.. lemme look this up. i had to rebuild b40 for FTW and it came out fine...
will edit this when i have the answer..
without actually batch extracting to verify this i can safely say this is how i did it.
you know when rebuilding SP maps you have to rename your new sbsp.meta right? well i went into my levels folder for b40 and simply checked what file name was first with the ending "sbsp.meta" and renamed my new sbsp.meta to that one. then copy over as usual.
so simply go into the levels folder for b40 and check what file name is the first ending with "sbsp.meta" and rename your batch one to that and over write as normally.
that should work and im 100% sure thats what i did when i ran into this issue as well. editing this map without sparkedit is going to be a pain cause my rebuilt wont open in it either. but my stock one did... weird.

Life is not how you survive the storm, but how you dance in the rain
Just to clean this up, Pepsi was right. The BSP chunk you should overwrite is called b40_a1.sbsp.meta

nahh.. this little trick is what i did BUT!!! there is a map this doesnt work for and you have to actually check via something like sparkedit to see what the first BSP is. if i remember correctly its TaR. the levels file names are out of order.. or was it keyes? PFFT!! congrats philly.. glad you got it going!

So you overwrite the one you start in, not the first one in the list?

Putting aside the massive bump, and a potential threadjack, there should be no need to rebuild.
