grades vs intelligence

Do grades in school show how intelligent you are? my answer "yes and no"

NO because:

this one girl in my school gets mosly A's and B's but can barely multiply numbers, thinks Africa is a state, doesn't know the name of the state she lives in, and like to sniff gasoline.

YES because: my friend that I eat lunch with gets the same grades and knows a lot about history and is great at algebra.

I find test scores to be a more accurate representation of intelligence than a course grade.

Kinda matters, they obviously show how smart you are in school subjects, but not the challenges of everyday life.

Grades reflect effort more than intelligence, really. You could be the smartest kid in the whole damn world, but if you don't do shit, then that's what you get on your report card. I know this because... Well, let's just say I'm not the greatest of students. >_>

Also, I agree with Tural.

Getting good grades is easy, all you have to do is put in effort. So... In a way, yes it reflects your intelligence... for the most part, it doesn't though.

At my school it does. All the dumbasses (80% of the school) get really bad grades because they don't try and they don't focus. I finished my freshman year with all A's and I didn't put in that much effort. It really depends on the materials and the teachers.

like tural said, course and test grades are different.

for example, i don't get very good grades because i'm sorta lazy and do other things before homework, but if i put in the effort, i'd get straight A's easy. (speaking of which, that's what i'm going to do because my GPA needs to go up right the fuck now for college). overall grades in a class show whether you take notes, absorb lectures, do homework, etc.

test grades are where you actually put the knowlege to the test instead of just putting time in. i do well on tests because i remember what teachers lecture about, and i like to think i'm sort of bright, and it also isn't much effort at all, just answer some questions and finish after anywhere between 10 minutes and 30 minutes, depending on how many questions there are.

I say they don't because people may be smart but they like to be lazy and just procrastinate a lot.

to be honest, I'm usually smarter than either 90-95% of the class, and/or the teacher. The only setback to my grades is the fact that i do not do homework, unless it's a project.

Pretend you have 2 people of equal intelligence, so let's use... me and mac_user as an example..

No wait, that's not right, here's a better one, mac_user and Fee Seas

You can have mac_user in a "normal" class and have Fee Seas in an "honors/AP" class. Of course, the "normal" class being easier, maccy boy would score better grades if both subjects put in the same effort into learning.

Normal People + Normal Class = Normal Grades
Smart People + Normal Class = High Grades

So grades don't always show intelligence, I have a friend in an "easier" class for the same subject, and he gets A's all year whilst I being in the "upper" class get's A/B's >.>

You could have said that instead of posting about book smarts and street smarts.
