Help with TV channels

This is kinda a wierd question, but I was hoping someone would know a solution.

I recently got a cheap universal remote because my vcr remote broke. I got everything to work, however the channal up and channel down buttons dont seem to work with my vcr.

Now, in order to play my xbox, I much go to channel L2. With my old remote, I would go to channel 1, and then go down one channel. But now that I can't use the channel down button, I can't get to channel L2.

None of the buttons on the remote go to channel L2 (this was also true with my original remote), but is there any other way I can get to L2.

I don't know anything about this, but if you want more help, it might be useful to post the remote model and VCR model if you know them.

Tune with the TV controls if you have some.

try hitting the line in/video/input button on the remote.
