you need to diasable the auto-update

you probally want to do it in the xbe, there is a tut on how to disable it in the xbe in the mappack folder its uder extras

I had the Auto-Update on and it worked.

at the bottom if it says 1.1 does tht mean the update is present

Yeah the reason why coco's autoupdate worked was because he had the 1.1 version. Sounds like you have the 1.2 version you get from live, if you have modded content it will take you back to the mainmenu.
