AI Mod Questions

Post by scar tissue »

I understand the concept of putting wokring AI's into a multiplayer maps (and I have a few tutorials for reference when I get lost). Now, for this project I'm working on, I do not want AI that will shoot at you and so on, I want animals. I wanted to create a small animal kingdom of creatures native to Halo. Creatures unseen before. How would I go about creating these creatures.

(short version:
I can put them in, I just need to create them first, how?)

Ummmm... okay. Well, you could always inject the Covenant and Flood into a map like Blood Gulch and remodel them with either Milkshape 3D or with with the much fancier 3DStudio Max. Heck, if you still want to keep the Covenant in addition to the creatures, you could always try to duplicate them much like you can with weapons and vehicles.

I don't have Milkshape or 3DSMax because neither of them worked. I do have GMax.

Now, how would I duplicate the models? Would I just copy the files, rename them and reconstruct them? Cuz it sounds stimple enough (yeah right).

Well if you want detail in your models then you'd have to make them completely from scratch.
You can edit original models (Elite, flood, grunt, etc.) but the collision model would be a nuisance and i guarantee you would have no fun whatsoever.
If you really want to go on with this project then download halo custom edition and halo editing kit

If you're not interested in halo custom edition then the best program for editing current models would be milkshape. www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/
I don't think i've ever seen someone use a program other than milkshape to remodel models.
Mind to explain why milkshape doesn't work? trial ran out?

If it did then you can also try anim8tor http://www.anim8or.com/main/
Used it one time and it might give you the same effect.
there's also other programs you could use.. www.wings3d.com
Also, GMAX's .obj exporter is weird and I don't know anyone that actually got their gmax model to import into halo pc.

Although, if you are willing give halo custom edition a try.. you'll need 3dsMAX to create new bipeds.
I think you can do it manually with gmax (takes a long time) but i believe the tutorial links are down at the moment. :?
